Where Oscar is a better fit

  • You want the monthly returns and the annual report for less: 49 EUR a month on the monthly plan, against 149 EUR a month for Standard, both without VAT. Unicount charges the annual report as one more monthly fee; at Oscar it is in the price, also when you join in the middle of the year.
  • You have more than 30 documents a month: sales invoices are unlimited, and up to 100 purchase invoices a month are in the Oscar price. Standard includes 30 source documents, then 1.50 EUR each. For the company of the worked example, that is 49 EUR against 195.50 EUR a month.
  • You pay salaries: payroll and the salary tax declaration for up to 3 employees are in the Oscar price.
  • You want your books to follow your bank: Oscar reads a connected bank account every day while the company is active, and books the lines as they arrive.
  • You want to work on your books from your own tools: Oscar has a remote MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, a public REST API with API keys, and Ask AI in the app. On 11.10.2026 the Unicount pages we checked list none of these three.
  • Your company owns real estate or investments: rental income, investment property, other fixed assets, shares in subsidiaries, funds, listed securities and crypto assets are booked in the 49 EUR plan. Unicount charges fixed asset entries by the hour.

Where Unicount is a better fit

  • You do not have a company yet. Unicount registers it for 296 EUR including VAT, state fee included, and states registration in 1 working day, together with its virtual office. Oscar works only with a company that is already in the Business Register.[2]
  • You need a legal address and a contact person in Estonia. The Unicount virtual office gives both for 199 EUR a year plus VAT. Oscar does not offer them.[2]
  • Your company is dormant and only needs its annual report. Unicount prepares the annual accounts of a dormant company from 199 EUR, with no monthly plan. Oscar has no annual-report-only plan; its yearly plan costs 499 EUR.[2]
  • You keep the books yourself and want only the software. Lite, at 29 EUR a month, gives invoicing and expense software with no accountant.[2][1]
  • You want your payments prepared every week, or the books done every day. Premium (290 EUR a month) has a weekly service with payment preparation; Advanced (from 490 EUR) has a daily service and a yearly analysis of the finances.[1]
  • You want one named accountant and short paid calls. Unicount names an accountant on every managed plan, and sells calls from 20 EUR for 15 minutes.[1]

Unicount is a service of Unicount OÜ for Estonian companies, many of them run through e-Residency: company formation, a virtual office with a contact person, and monthly accounting with a named accountant. Oscar is an accounting service for Estonian companies: the software books the bank lines and the receipts, and our accountants in Tallinn check the books and file the returns. Both keep the books and file the monthly returns. They differ in what comes around the books, in the annual report, in the automation, and in how each counts the volume.

The table compares the Oscar monthly plan with Unicount Standard: the first Unicount plan with the VAT return and the salary tax declaration (TSD) in the monthly fee, as in the Oscar plan. The Oscar prices are those of the pricing section of our website. The Unicount prices and terms are those of its pages on 11.10.2026. Every Unicount figure in the table carries the number of its source. Every source is listed with its date at the end of the page.

What each price leaves out

  • Units. Unicount counts source documents: invoices, and bank or cash transfers other than invoice payments. Oscar counts sales invoices (unlimited) and purchase invoices (up to 100 a month) apart. The two counts are not equal, so compare with your own volume.
  • The address. Oscar's plan has no legal address and no contact person. If you need them, add their cost to the Oscar price before you compare. At Unicount, the virtual office is a separate yearly fee.
  • Extra fees. Oscar's price list has three extra fees: 0.05 EUR for each purchase invoice above 100 a month, 5 EUR a month for each employee above 3, and 5 EUR a month for each bank account above 4. Unicount lists hourly work, tax consultation, calls with an accountant and the intra-community VAT return as extras. The Oscar price list has no hourly work, no tax consultation and no paid calls.
  • VAT. Both price lists are without VAT, except the Unicount formation price, which includes it. VAT at 24% is added; a company with a VAT number can usually deduct it.

Is Oscar an alternative to Unicount?

For the accounting of a company that is already registered, yes: both keep the books, file the VAT return and the salary tax declaration (TSD), and prepare the annual report, which Unicount charges as one monthly fee. Unicount also sells what comes around the books: the formation, the address, the contact person, and the annual accounts of a dormant company alone. Oscar does not.

Which Unicount plan matches the Oscar plan?

Standard, because it is the first Unicount plan that files the VAT return and the salary tax declaration (TSD) within its monthly fee. Micro costs less, 99 EUR a month, but includes 20 source documents and charges the returns on top. Lite is software only, with no accountant.

Less usual companies

  • Several shareholders. The Oscar price list sets no limit on shareholders. The Unicount formation is for one founder; more shareholders can be added afterwards.
  • Dividends. Oscar books a dividend and declares it in the salary tax declaration (TSD), with its annex 7, in the plan; the Oscar price list has no fee for a dividend.
  • Real estate and other fixed assets. Oscar books rental income and investment property, at cost or at fair value, and keeps a fixed asset register with depreciation by Estonian rules, in the plan. Unicount charges fixed asset entries by the hour.
  • A holding company, shares, funds and crypto. Oscar books shares in subsidiaries, funds, listed securities and crypto assets, in the plan. On 11.10.2026 the Unicount fee list and pricing page name no price for investments or crypto.
  • Joining during the year. The annual report stays in the Oscar price when you join in the middle of the year. At Unicount it costs one more monthly fee.
  • A dormant year. Unicount prepares the annual accounts of a dormant company from 199 EUR, with no monthly plan. Oscar has no such plan.

A worked example

A company with a VAT number, 30 sales invoices and 30 purchase invoices a month, and 1 employee. Prices without VAT.

Which Unicount plan. Unicount counts source documents: the invoices, and the bank or cash transfers that are not invoice payments. We count 61: the 60 invoices and the salary payment. Each other such transfer, a tax payment for example, adds 1.50 EUR. Standard includes 30 documents and the two returns. The fee list gives no fee for each employee. The annual report costs one monthly fee; we take the minimum fee of the plan.

Oscar costs 146.50 EUR a month less, 1,907 EUR a year. On the yearly plan Oscar costs 499 EUR a year. Micro may cost a little less than Standard: 99 EUR, 20 documents included, 41 more at 1.50 EUR, and 30 EUR for the returns, which comes to 190.50 EUR a month. The fee list does not say whether the 30 EUR covers both returns or each one; if each, Micro costs 220.50 EUR.

How did we check these figures?

We read the Unicount fee list, its pricing page, its terms and its pages on accounting in Estonia and on how it works on 11.10.2026. We kept the facts the pages state, and left out what they do not state clearly. Prices change: check the pages of each provider before you decide. If a figure here is out of date, tell us and we will correct the page.

Conclusion

Oscar does the usual month for less: 49 EUR a month on the monthly plan, against 149 EUR for Unicount Standard. The Oscar price includes unlimited sales invoices, up to 100 purchase invoices, payroll and the salary tax declaration (TSD) for up to 3 employees, the VAT return and the annual report, which Unicount charges as one more monthly fee. Oscar reads a connected bank account every day while the company is active. You can work on your books from your own tools: through the MCP server in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, through the REST API, or with Ask AI in the app. On 11.10.2026 the Unicount pages we checked list none of these three. Real estate, other fixed assets and investments are in the Oscar plan, where Unicount charges fixed asset entries by the hour.

In the worked example, the company pays 588 EUR a year at Oscar and 2,495 EUR at Unicount Standard: 1,907 EUR a year less at Oscar.

Unicount is the better choice for a founder who still has to register the company, needs a virtual office, has a dormant company that needs only its annual accounts, or wants one named accountant and paid calls.
