Where Oscar is a better fit

  • Your company already exists and you want the books and the returns for less: 49 EUR a month on the monthly plan, against 89 EUR a month for Pro, both without VAT. Companio charges the annual report on top, from 250 EUR. For the company of the worked example, that is 588 EUR a year at Oscar against at least 1,318 EUR at Companio Pro.
  • You pay salaries to up to 3 employees: they are in the Oscar price. On Pro, each board member salary costs 89 EUR on top.
  • You have 4 bank accounts: all 4 are in the Oscar price. Pro supports 3, from its list of banks.
  • You want your books to follow your bank: Oscar reads a connected bank account every day while the company is active, and books the lines as they arrive.
  • You want to work on your books from your own tools: Oscar has a remote MCP server for Claude, ChatGPT and Cursor, a public REST API with API keys, and Ask AI in the app. On 11.10.2026 the Companio pages we checked list no public API and no MCP server, and its AI assistant is announced, not live.
  • Your company invests, holds crypto or owns real estate: shares in subsidiaries, funds, listed securities, crypto assets, rental income and investment property are booked in the 49 EUR plan. Companio Pro allows no crypto in any form and no investment platforms; Premium, which does, starts at 199 EUR a month.
  • You join in the middle of the year: the annual report stays in the Oscar price. At Companio the 250 EUR fee needs a monthly plan for the whole financial year; otherwise the report costs 500 EUR or 1,000 EUR, by the date it is prepared.

Where Companio is a better fit

  • You do not have a company yet. Companio registers it, consults on the e-Residency application in every plan, and charges no registration fee of its own on Premium and Ultra. Oscar works only with a company that is already in the Business Register.[1][2]
  • You need a legal address and a contact person in Estonia. Both are in every Companio plan, Pro included. Oscar does not offer them: add their cost to the Oscar price before you compare.[1]
  • You want to hire people in other countries. Companio Work is an add-on to hire and pay employees in more than 80 countries.[1][3]
  • You pay or invest in crypto, sell through Amazon FBA or dropshipping, or report OSS, and want a plan that names it. Companio Premium, from 199 EUR a month, covers these activities.[1][3]
  • You want a personal assistant for the books and the admin. The companion® add-on gives up to 5 hours a week of direct communication and bookkeeping support.[1]

Companio is a service of CompanioEstonia OÜ for digital entrepreneurs who run an Estonian company, often through e-Residency: company registration, a legal address and contact person, and accounting on its own platform. Oscar is an accounting service for Estonian companies: the software books the bank lines and the receipts, and our accountants in Tallinn check the books and file the returns. Both keep the books and file the monthly returns. They differ in what comes around the books, in the annual report, in the automation, and in the terms.

The table compares the Oscar monthly plan with Companio Pro: the Companio plan for an Estonian company with simple operations, with the VAT return and the salary tax declaration (TSD) included. The Oscar prices are those of the pricing section of our website. The Companio prices and terms are those of its pages on 11.10.2026. Every Companio figure in the table carries the number of its source. Every source is listed with its date at the end of the page.

What each price leaves out

  • Units. Oscar counts sales and purchase invoices. Companio counts transactions, and its pages do not define them. The two counts are not equal.
  • The address. Every Companio plan includes a legal address and a contact person. Oscar's plan has neither. If you need them, add their cost to the Oscar price before you compare.
  • The annual report. Companio charges it on top, and the fee depends on the date the report is prepared: 250 EUR, 500 EUR or 1,000 EUR.
  • Extra fees. Oscar's price list has three extra fees: 0.05 EUR for each purchase invoice above 100 a month, 5 EUR a month for each employee above 3, and 5 EUR a month for each bank account above 4. Companio lists fees for company changes, certificates and other services outside the plan. Oscar does not offer company changes, an address, OSS returns or employees in other countries, so it has no fee for them.
  • Kinds of business. Companio serves digital businesses only. Pro does not support crypto, investment platforms, Amazon FBA, dropshipping or OSS; Premium does.
  • VAT. Both price lists are without VAT. VAT at 24% is added; a company with a VAT number can usually deduct it.

Is Oscar an alternative to Companio?

For the accounting of a company that is already registered, yes: both keep the books and file the VAT return and the salary tax declaration (TSD), and both prepare the annual report. For a founder who still has to register the company, get an address and a contact person, and apply for e-Residency, Companio covers steps that Oscar does not.

Which Companio plan matches the Oscar plan?

Pro, because it is the Companio plan for a company with simple operations, and it files the VAT return and the salary tax declaration (TSD) as the Oscar plan does. Premium costs more and adds crypto, investments, e-commerce and OSS.

Less usual companies

  • Several shareholders. Both take a company with several shareholders and board members. The Oscar price list sets no limit; Companio charges a registration fee of 50 EUR for each extra member.
  • Dividends. Oscar books a dividend and declares it in the salary tax declaration (TSD), with its annex 7, in the plan; the Oscar price list has no fee for a dividend.
  • Real estate. Oscar books rental income and investment property, at cost or at fair value, in the plan, and keeps real estate for your own use in the fixed asset register with depreciation by Estonian rules. On 11.10.2026 the Companio pages we checked name no plan and no price for real estate.
  • A holding company, investments and crypto. Oscar books shares in subsidiaries, funds, listed securities and crypto assets, in the plan. Companio Pro supports no crypto in any form and no investment platforms such as Interactive Brokers, eToro or Mintos. Premium, from 199 EUR a month, supports trading and investments on supported platforms and crypto payments and investments.
  • Joining during the year. The annual report stays in the Oscar price when you join in the middle of the year. At Companio, the 250 EUR fee needs a monthly plan for the whole financial year; otherwise the report costs 500 EUR or 1,000 EUR, by the date it is prepared.

A worked example

A company with a VAT number, 30 sales invoices and 30 purchase invoices a month, and 1 employee. Prices without VAT.

Which Companio plan. Pro: it allows up to 1,000 transactions a month and files the VAT return and the salary tax declaration (TSD). The Companio pages name a fee only for the salary of a board member, 89 EUR on Pro, and do not say for which period it is charged, nor what Pro charges for an employee who is not a board member. So the Companio column leaves the employee out: its true cost is at least the figure below. We assume the annual report is prepared by 31 March, at the lowest fee, which needs a monthly plan for the whole year.

ItemOscar, monthly planCompanio Pro
Monthly fee49 EUR89 EUR
60 invoicesin the planin the plan
1 employee: payroll and the salary tax declarationin the plannot stated, see above
VAT returnin the planin the plan
Annual reportin the plan250 EUR a year
A month49 EURfrom 89 EUR
A year588 EURfrom 1,318 EUR

Oscar costs at least 40 EUR a month less, and at least 730 EUR a year less. If the employee is a board member, add the board member salary fee of 89 EUR to Companio. On the yearly plan Oscar costs 499 EUR a year.

The 250 EUR fee assumes a full financial year on a Companio monthly plan. For the year in which a company joins Companio, the annual report costs 500 EUR if it is prepared by 30 June, or 1,000 EUR after: 250 EUR or 750 EUR more than the example assumes. At Oscar the annual report stays in the plan, also when you join in the middle of the year.

How did we check these figures?

We read the Companio pricing page, its page on companies in Estonia, its terms and its help centre news on 11.10.2026, including the check marks of each plan. We kept the facts the pages state, and left out what they do not state clearly. Prices change: check the pages of each provider before you decide. If a figure here is out of date, tell us and we will correct the page.

Conclusion

For a company that already exists, Oscar does the usual month for less: 49 EUR a month on the monthly plan, against 89 EUR for Companio Pro. The Oscar price includes unlimited sales invoices, up to 100 purchase invoices, payroll and the salary tax declaration (TSD) for up to 3 employees, the VAT return and the annual report, which Companio charges on top. Oscar reads a connected bank account every day while the company is active. You can work on your books from your own tools: through the MCP server in Claude, ChatGPT or Cursor, through the REST API, or with Ask AI in the app. On 11.10.2026 the Companio pages we checked list no public API and no MCP server, and its AI assistant is announced, not live. Investments, crypto and real estate are in the Oscar plan, where Companio needs Premium, from 199 EUR a month, for crypto and investment platforms. The annual report stays in the Oscar price when you join in the middle of the year; at Companio it costs 500 EUR or 1,000 EUR unless you were on a monthly plan for the whole year.

In the worked example, the company pays 588 EUR a year at Oscar and at least 1,318 EUR at Companio Pro: at least 730 EUR a year less at Oscar.

Companio is the better choice for a founder who still has to register the company, needs a legal address and a contact person in Estonia, hires in other countries, or holds crypto or investments on its Premium plan.
